We appreciate your interest in a Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship at the University of Michigan!

After creating your OpenWater account, please make sure to choose the correct application form in the drop down menu depending on your citizenship. If you are a U.S. citizen, apply as a U.S. applicant, even if you work in another country or for a non–U.S. journalism entity. If you are not a U.S. citizen, apply as an international applicant, even if you work in the United States or for an American journalism entity. (A green card is not the same as citizenship.) International applications uploaded in the U.S. portal will not be considered. If you are a dual citizen of the U.S. and another country, please email apply2kwf@umich.edu for guidance on whether to complete a U.S. application or an international application.

  • International applications are due on December 1, 2024 by 11:59pm ET. The deadline for the submission of international applications is due to the length of the visa process. Non-US citizens who submit an application in the U.S. portal will not be considered.

  • U.S. applications, including three new fellowships-- the Arts Journalism Fellowship, the Great Lakes Local News Fellowship, and the Social Science Fellowship-- are due on February 1, 2025 by 11:59pm ET.

To start a new application or to continue with an existing one, please click here. For more information on completing the application, please visit our website at Wallace House Center for Journalists.

We look forward to reviewing your application!
